JD CENTRAL Signs MOU on Safe Online Shopping

JD CENTRAL signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on online shopper protection to eliminate concerns over online shopping scams and boost consumer confidence with the aim of becoming Thailand’s number 1 e-commerce platform.


Central JD Commerce Limited (JD CENTRAL), led by Chief Marketing Officer Rvisra Chirathivat, together with the Electronic Transactions Development Agency, Foundation for Consumers and related agencies, attended the MOU signing ceremony, which took place at the Office of Thai Health Promotion Foundation on Sept. 19, 2019.

This collaboration comes as all sides are underlining the protection of consumer’s rights and keen on boosting consumer confidence in online shopping following a series of complaints about online shopping scams. The scams include deliveries of damaged products, frauds and false advertisements, which have occurred globally, causing widespread impacts on consumers.

A recent study by Better Business Bureau, a U.S.-based nonprofit organization that focuses on consumer protection, found that one in every four online shoppers will become a victim of an online scam. The most scam is a type of false advertising when a product is marked down in price to attract buyers. But when the product arrives, it is either low quality or a different item altogether.

In another development, an average of six Hongkongers per day reportedly fall victim to online shopping scams, up 35% from 2018. Most of them were conned when the goods they paid for never arrived.

The signing of the MOU reflects sincerity and responsibility towards customers of JD CENTRAL as a leading e-commerce operator. It also helps give a boost to confidence among shoppers on the JD CENTRAL platform.
